Solar Installs
Solar Power Installation
If you are considering installing a solar power system or are looking for someone to install your Solar System Harbour View Electrical can help. We are experienced installers of Solar Power Systems in Whakatane and across the Eastern Bay of Plenty. More and more people are choosing Solar Power Systems both in new homes or adding to existing homes.
Whakatane and the Bay of Plenty is well known for the large amount of sunshine hours each year, often leading the country with the most sunshine hours per year. It makes sense to harness the power of the sun with a solar power system to help reduce your power bills.
Harbour View Electrical can install Grid-Tied and Stand Alone Solar Systems, contact us to discuss your Solar Power Installation.
Grid-Tied Solar Electricity System
A Grid-Tied Solar Electricity System captures the energy from the sun via the solar panels that are installed on your roof (or located close to your house). The energy is then converted into DC electricity.
A Solar Inverter, part of your Solar System, converts the DC electricity into 230V AC electricity that you can use in your home.
If there is excess solar electricity produced by your system then in a Grid-Tied situation this is exported to the national grid where your electricity retailers will credit you (do check with your power company that they provide this service).
If there isn't enough solar electricity being produced for your power consumption needs then it will be imported from the grid (your power company).
Grid-Tied Solar Electricity Systems are useful for homes with items that need constant power such as swimming pools, spas, air conditioning, electric hot water cylinders, deep freezers and more.
Off Grid Solar Electricity System
Off Grid Solar Power Electricity is a Standalone Solar System not connected to the grid. It uses batteries to store solar power instead of exporting it to the grid like the Grid-Tied Solar System.
How an Off Grid Solar System Works:
The Solar Panels capture energy from the sun and convert it into DC electricity which runs through a charge controller.
When power is required it comes from the batteries through the inverter, which is then converted into AC electricity.
The electricity it produces can be used by most appliances, 12-volt appliances can use power directly from the battery without having to go through the inverter.
Off Grid Solar Systems are useful if you live in a rural location where connecting to the grid may be costly and will mean you have no more power bills. The cost of Off Grid Solar Systems are significantly higher than Grid-Tied Systems.
